FAQs and Planning

Plans are in progress to replace the existing Derbyshire councils with unitary authorities. The information on this page covers the current situation in January 2026 and will be updated when a final decision is made.

High Peak Borough Council is responsible for a range of local services including

  • bins & recycling
  • street cleaning (litter, dog fouling, gritting, fly tipping, abandoned vehicles)
  • environmental health (noise nuisance & food hygiene issues, pest control & treatment, drainage & flooding problems, dog control).

Derbyshire County Council is responsible for or a range of local services including:-
education, transport, roads & highways, drainage, care homes, libraries, waste management and recycling.
